The Cat Who Waved

Senora came into our family in the fall of 2019, and she did it in a way that was pretty hard to ignore. Emmy had Roxy at a training class at PetSmart, where they were offering Halloween-themed pet pictures. Ron had brought Ein along for the photo opportunity, and while Emmy and Roxy were in class, Ron took Ein around the store to see what else was going on. That's when he walked past the cat adoption enclosure. And saw a blonde tabby wave at him. They kept walking.Then Ron looked back. The cat waved again. Now, whether Senora was actually waving or simply moving her paw at exactly the right moment, we'll never know. But Ron decided he needed to meet this little squirt. The PetSmart staff told him he couldn't meet her without filling out an adoption application. So he did. Ron met the cat, discovered that she was a very sweet girl, and then—quite responsibly—put her back and went home. On the way home, he told Emmy about the cat who had waved at him. Shortly after they got home, PetSmart called. Ron had been approved for the adoption. And just like that, Senora came home. Of course, there was one small problem. After arriving at Handley Ranch, Senora promptly decided that she wasn't Ron's cat at all. She was Emmy's cat. Immediately. Senora was named after the Harry Belafonte song Jump in the Line, and she has been a loving member of the family ever since. She loves attention. She loves scratches. And above all else— Senora loves food. She really, really loves food. If there's something edible happening somewhere on the Ranch, there is a pretty good chance Senora knows about it. Today, Senora shares the Farm with Lalena and Felicia, and she has settled comfortably into life as one of the Ranch cats. She's sweet. She's affectionate. She's a little bit spoiled. And she's still the cat who apparently knew exactly how to get Ron's attention from across a PetSmart adoption enclosure. One little wave. That's all it took. And we're awfully glad she did.
