🥚 Fertilized Eggs — $5 Each
Our fertilized eggs come from our hand-raised hens, cared for right here at Handley Ranch. These eggs are collected for those who want to hatch their own chicks and start or expand their flock. They're a great way to experience the hatching process for yourself and build your own backyard flock. Our chickens are raised without added hormones or routine vaccinations as part of our natural approach to flock management.
🐣 Straight-Run Chicks — $5 Each
Straight run means HENS AND ROOSTERS. Our chicks are sold unsexed because, quite frankly, Ron is TERRIBLE at sexing day-old chicks! 😂 We typically hatch a batch of up to approximately 50 chicks, with new hatches generally available about every three weeks. Chicks are available for pickup approximately 72 hours after hatching, once they've had time to get settled and strong. If you want hens only, we strongly recommend purchasing a pullet or older hen instead. That way, we can guarantee you're getting a female.
🐔 Pullets — $15 Each
A pullet is a young female chicken that has not yet begun laying eggs. Our pullets are hand-raised and accustomed to being handled, making them a great choice for backyard flocks, families, and first-time chicken keepers. If you're looking for a guaranteed hen without waiting to find out what your straight-run chicks turn into, a pullet is the way to go. They're young, hardy, curious, and have plenty of productive years ahead of them.
🐓 Cockerels — $15 Each
A cockerel is a young male chicken that has not yet reached full maturity. Our cockerels are hand-raised here at the ranch and are accustomed to people. They're curious, social, and surprisingly sweet. A young rooster can make an excellent addition to a breeding flock and, as he matures, will naturally take on the role of protector and leader of the hens.
🐔 Adult Hens — $25 Each
Want to skip the chick stage and get right to having an established hen? Our adult hens are hand-raised, accustomed to people, and ready to join your flock. They're known for being tame, curious, and social, while also being dependable layers. Our primary breed, the Plymouth Barred Rock, is well known for being both a good egg layer and an excellent meat bird. If your goal is simply “I want some hens that are ready to get to work,” adult hens are an excellent choice.
🐓 Adult Roosters — $25 Each
Need a mature rooster for your flock? Our adult roosters are hand-raised right here at Handley Ranch and are accustomed to being around people. They're protective of their hens while still being remarkably tame, curious, and personable. A good rooster does more than fertilize eggs. He helps maintain the natural flock hierarchy, watches over the hens, and becomes an important part of the flock.
A Few Things to Know Before Ordering
We raise our chickens the old-fashioned way — plenty of room, good food, clean living conditions, hands-on care, and plenty of attention. Our flock is primarily Heritage Plymouth Barred Rock, with our Black Australorp flock continuing to grow. We do not use added hormones, and we do not routinely vaccinate our chickens. Instead, we focus on good nutrition, cleanliness, healthy living conditions, and attentive flock management. Availability changes quickly, especially during chick season. If something isn't currently available, check back with us — we're always hatching, raising, and growing the flock.
