Welcome to Handley Ranch, Henry the Miniature Donkey!

Henry came to us from a wonderful family in the Pleasant Hill community of Hemingway, and he wasted no time settling into his new home. Based on his initial farrier visit and the discovery of a couple of remaining baby teeth, we estimate Henry to be around three years old. He also sports the classic cross across his back — a distinctive marking that is common among miniature donkeys.

Until Henry has a place of his very own, he is bunking with our Nigerian Dwarf does, and he seems to have decided that part of his job is keeping an eye on the girls. He enjoys herding them around and appears to be quite pleased with his new responsibilities! The doe pen is right next to the buck pen, where Henry has also made friends with Domino, our Nigerian Dwarf/Alpine mix wether.

Just as his previous family promised, Henry has quickly become our 6:30 a.m. alarm clock. He has also discovered that if he calls out while we’re working in the yard, there’s a pretty good chance someone will come over and give him the head scratch he’s asking for. He is absolutely adorable, and he already has a way of making sure he gets plenty of attention!

With miniature donkeys often living 25–35 years, we know Henry could be part of the Handley Ranch family for a very long time. We’re looking forward to earning his trust, getting to know his personality, and building a loving relationship with him for many years to come. We couldn’t be happier to have this sweet little guy as part of the farm!
